Reasons to start protecting your back at a young age

Did you know that back pain is the second most common problem in America, after common cold? Back pain can be frustrating both for the patient and the doctor. It can be pleasant to hear at this point that in most of the cases back pain can be cured. Actually in 70% of the cases the cure lies in the origin of the pain and hence finding the cause of the pain is a very important point in curing it.

Having pain in your back becomes common with age but believe me, life becomes very difficult with it. Sitting still without moving is the worst thing anyone will want in to happen to their life. Now imagine a situation where you have to endure pain in every movement you make, that is  while walking, going to sit or stand and lifting something. With back problems you cannot play with your children or grandchildren even if you want to play with them.  Back pain will quickly slow you down and that is not what you want at a young age. If you don’t want this to happen in your life then it’s better that you start protecting your back at a young age.

There are different ways to stay pain free. Consider following these tips and you can stay pain free for a long time.

Exercise – Exercising is beneficial in keeping a body healthy. But consult your doctor before doing any exercise as the wrong way of doing them can increase your chances of suffering from pain in your back. Abdominal crunches, stretching exercises,  and pelvic tilts can be helpful when done properly.

Lumbar support belts – These are very important for individuals involved in frequent lifting of heavy loads. Although lumbar support belts doesn’t guarantee anything in this respect, they have been proved helpful in many situation.

3S’es (Standing/Sitting/Sleeping) – Always stand straight with your stomach pulled in. Sit straight and use a chair which has lumbar support. Sleeping on a very hard bed can be equally dangerous as sleeping on a very soft one. Actually this depends on the individual using the bed, so select the one which suits you best.

Lifting – Be very careful while lifting a heavy load. The wrong way of lifting can overstretch your muscles and can cause back pain in the long run. If you feel that an object is too heavy for you then don’t lift it, not even to impress your wife/girlfriend.

I will suggest that you start taking care of your back at a young age or later it can become a big problem for you. Prevention is always better than cure.
